Valley Tow 81312 Class IV Receiver Hitch Review

When the hitch arrived last week, I was initially thrilled that it was 2 days early.when I examined the hitch, though, it was obvious that it was not packaged in any way--no box, no bubble wrap or cardboard.It was delivered by UPS and had clearly been banged, dropped and dragged.There were multiple scratches, severely chipped paint in more than a dozen locations and even 2 dents.All the packing slips and ups bar codes were stuck directly to the metal.It took 2 people nearly an hour to scrape off all the adhesive and stickers.

The hitch did not include installation instructions, nuts, bolts or washers.Spent 2 hours online searching for installation instructions.I had to spend $25 on paint and supplies at the local hardware store to repair and mount the hitch.

All in all, after dozens of purchases on Amazon over the years, this was my first real negative experience.I'm extremely disappointed at how this item was delivered.I spent 30 minutes this morning just trying to find Amazon's customer service or complaint desk online and was unsuccessful.I guess writing this review is the only way to get anyone's attention.Amazon should be ashamed that this wasn't packaged better and that it wasn't disclosed that there were no bolts, washers or installation instructions.My advice is to purchase and install a hitch locally from a trusted shop.

Curt Manufacturing 11318 Class I Receiver Review

Yes, it goes on with just 4 bolts but the prep, depending on your car, is a different story. Just be aware you have to take things off, in the case of a 2003 WRX, and that can take awhile if you don't have the right tools. I didn't have the right tools and ended up taking my car to a garage and paid them $30 to install it. Still not a bad deal if you compare what it costs from a dealer or a place like U-Haul. Overall I'm very happy with this product and Amazon's price and free delivery made buying it here the cheapest around.

The earlier reviews are correct. There is only (1) D ring per package. I originally ordered (6) packages b/c I needed a total of 12 since the site stated there was 2 per package.

Once they were received, I only had 6--not 12 as anticipated.The problem begins with the manufacturer. The packaging clearly states on the front and back that it included a set of 2. On the contrary, it only contains one.

I contacted Amazon and they were very efficient and took care of it. Despite the item description and packaging being inaccurate, Amazon sent the remaining 6 (12 ttl) to me at no cost.

Regarding the actual product quality--for the intended use, they are good quality and I'm happy with the product. The load capacity matches the strength I need.

Aside from the initial annoyance of not receiving what I ordered, I'm happy to know Amazon stood behind what they sell and corrected the situation with little hassle.

Curt Manufacturing 56033 T-Connector Review

The image for this item is incorrect.It does have the pre-wire connection for power for the 2008 Nissan Rogue SL, not the splice connection as pictured.Total between this part and the hitch, which we also bought on Amazon, we spent $180.It took us about 3 hours to install the wiring harness and the hitch, but most of that was removing the factory installed tow hook as we don't own a torque wrench and had to get those suckers off by hand, as well as figuring out how the interior came apart without breaking anything.Considering that the quotes we were getting for parts and installation were all in the $400 range, I think we did pretty well.

I highly recommend this wiring harness, once we got the vehicle apart the installation was a snap.

The product looks good but when I first looked at where and how this was to be installed ('07 Freestyle),I thought "no way". Started in by getting the bolts into place just to get a start. The tough part was getting them fished into place. A bit fiddley but when you look at the vehicles frame to mount this to, it worked out well! All downhill from there. When I bolted this in place, the thought that went into this hitch designe is great! Slipped into the area available perfectly and the exhaust hanger worked great. Thanks for the forethought!

New Orleans Saints Logo Hitch Cover Review

There is no reason to purchase any other Saints hitch cover.This one is as eye catching as it gets.It is bigger than you think.It is all metal, sturdy, and the colors are bright.
Only one thing...and I wouldn't shy away from getting it because of this but...the top is like a sword, watch your knee caps as you put up the groceries.Still get it and represent right, but just be aware of the bone piercing top.

Review Update 6/15/10:
My wife was rear-ended today.There was no major damage.But, they did destroy our hitch cover.It has been grabbing attention since early May.We still love it as much as we did on day one.And.....it is for this reason....that the guy who hit her at the light (who also had a warrant) will have to worry more about me seeking to avenge my hitch cover's death, than he will have to worry about the police.

I bought another one.They are too sharp looking for a true fan not to own.

Nice fit.I was able to install it by myself with a little assistance from a floor jack to hold it up while I threaded the bolts.A little trouble getting the bolts in above the Quest muffler due to limited working space but it was doable.Just take the heat shield off and the holes on the hitch bracket will line right up with the pre-existing threaded holes in the frame.I'm using it for a bike rack so I didn't tackle the electrical wiring.I was nervous about the fit and if the bolt holes would line up properly.Looks real nice.Very happy.

I had to make an adapter to get this to fit my Kaufman 5 ton double axle dump trailer, but it wasn't hard to do.The OD of the trailer's post was too big for the ID of the foot. Once I made the adapter, the foot worked great.To make the adapter I took a piece of standard pipe and drilled a hole to match up with the pin hole in the foot.The trailer's post comes down and sits on the top of the foot's post.The adapter keeps the trailer's post from slipping off.The hardest part about making the adapter was finding a suitable piece of scrap pipe.

Curt Manufacturing I-2040 Curt Softtrac I Breakaway Kit Review

The kit itself is fine, and works well. I would have given it a 5 except for the following issues:

1. The battery was dead, as in too dead to test the brakes. When I tested it, it was around 11.5 volts, and dropped to less than 10 when the brakes were actuated.
2. The o-ring in the battery box was not installed correctly, and was pinched in two places. I was able to remove and reinstall it, and it looks OK. There was also a screw missing from the box cover. If I had installed it as received, I'm sure water would have got into the box and caused problems eventually.
3. And this is the most disappointing. The installation instructions consist of a wavy, faint photocopy, one side of which was completely unreadable, except for the headings, such a "WARNING" and CAUTION" followed by unreadable text. Unfortunately that side also contained the step by step instructions. If you can read a wiring diagram, you're in luck, because there is a sharp, clear wiring diagram sticker right on the battery box. If you need step by step instructions, you're out of luck. You can download them from the internet, from a competitor's site.

Perhaps these things aren't that important, but how hard would it be include readable instructions?

Class I Hitch For Honda ~ CRV ~ 2007-2009 ~ Black ~ 200/2000 lbs.(TW/GTW) Review

This hitch is poorly designed and does not fit our 2006 Honda CRV.

The hitch is designed to use two holes stamped into the frame by Honda; first the hapless buyer is expected to widen the hole on each side (lowering the muffler to get to the one on the passenger's side), using a dremel tool or perhaps a rat-tail file; the instructions do not specify how.Since this exposes bare metal, it makes sense to paint the bare metal; this is not in the instructions, however.Then the besieged owner has to insert the "1 inch by 3 inch spacers" through the elongated holes, align the holes in the "spacers" with the holes through which they were inserted, push carriage bolts into the holes in the spacers from the bottom, push those assemblies up into the frame, and turn them over so that the bolts hang down from the spacers, through the holes in the frame.It's not as hard as it sounds, but is daunting.(The "spacers" have square holes to stop the carriage bolts from turning when the nuts are tightened.)Then the heavy mount is lifted into place, and voila!When attached to the tow hook per the instructions, the side mounts lack over an inch of reaching the holes with the bolts.Either 2 more holes have to be drilled in the frame - no real problem on the driver's side, but a major hassle on the passenger's side because the muffler is in the way! - or else the part of the mount that attaches to the tow hook has to be modified.I can't return the kit because parts of it are trapped irretrievably in the frame.

I doubt that the seller is shocked to learn that the hitch is faulty, because my package had already been opened - the first buyer must have either had the good sense to stop when they saw the inadequate instructions, or else had the good sense to test-fit it to the holes before grinding on their car!The seller should have investigated and seen the problem when it was returned, if not before.

Believe me, if I buy another piece of junk like this from Amazon, I will stop shopping here!

Draw-Tite 24715 Class I SportFrame Hitch with Drawbar Review

Had to return the first one because the square hole was welded crooked. Return shipping was as easy as it could be and there was no extra cost to purchaser. It is not shipped in a box so powered coated paint was damaged and there can be over a dozen difficult to remove stickers. The hitch is rated for 200 lbs tongue weight but I am only using it for a bike rack for up to two bikes (Two bikes and rack total weight 100 lbs). The design is clean and stays well hidden. It also does not require any hole drilling into car chassis. It took two hours to remove mailing and manufacture's labels and touch up damaged paint job. Fifteen minutes to install on Toyota Solara about an hour to install on Toyota Camry. You need a socket set with at least a 4 inch extension and a torque wrench. I suggest that the seller figure a better way of packaging for shipment. You should also know that hitch mount bike racks can block visibility of your car's license plate and police will not like that.

Valley 82730 Class 3 Receiver Hitch Review

I found the installation of this product quite easy. All the hardware was in the box and instructions. It took approximatley 30 minutes to install but I did find that on the 2005 ford F-150 it was easier to take the bolts that went into the frame through a hole forward of where the hitch bolts on than going through the back of the frame. Much shorter distance and easier to feed the wire through.

Heininger 6028 HitchMate Soft Hitch Guard Review

I've never had a problem with banging myself up on the hitch ball; but, if you do, this cover is a very simple way to solve it.The product is nothing but a piece of foam that you press down over the hitch; very simple, yet effective.

The cover fits fairly tightly over a 2" ball, but there is still quite a bit of play once it is installed.Maybe it's just my hitch, but the cover never seems like it's straight after I've been driving on the highway since it can tilt in pretty much any direction.At some point, after it's had a bit more wear, I wouldn't be surprised to find that it has come off completely...

Since it's made of foam, I also won't be surprised if it starts to break down in the Texas heat; but, that would probably take long enough that it wouldn't be a huge deal if it is keeping you from banging up your shins on the hitch in the mean time:).

Overall, this product is so simple that it's hard to find fault with.The only direct improvement I can think of would be adding some kind of strap to the bottom to help stabilize it on the highway.
