Curt Manufacturing 11383 Class I Receiver Review

This looks like a top quality hitch.Robust construction, powder coating (better than just paint), and packed for shipping pretty well.However, mine came bent from the factory!To make a long story short, I attempted to install the hitch as per the instructions.Everything went well until I tried to mount the hitch to the mounting bolts in the frame.One mounting hole was bent about 0.5 inches out of whack!It could NOT be fiddled into position.Grrr!Anecdotal posting on car forums indicate that bent mounting brackets are not uncommon among all brands.

I called the company the next day, and to Curt Manufacturing's credit, they replaced it with very few questions and via next day shipping.They get mega points for correcting the problem quickly and with no objection.

The mounting bolt installation is done with an ingenious fish wire system to get bolts into hard to access holes in the car's frame.I was kind of dubious about this process, but this worked very well.Just follow the directions.The muffler had to be pushed aside slightly, but I got the mounting bracket in to position.Your car may differ (mine was a 2010 Mazda 3 hatchback).

For anyone mounting on this vehicle, the 2010 Mazda 3 hatchback: the distance between the two mounting holes toward the front of the car should be approx 37-5/8 inches center to center.If it looks bent, it might be, and this measurement should verify whether it is bent or not.

Their claim of mounting this hitch in 20 minutes is not realistic unless you have a car lift and do this for a living.Figure 1-2 hours depending on your skill/etc.

I wish the first hitch had been perfect, but their customer service took care of it quickly.I am now enjoying my bike rack mounted on this hitch receiver and it is very solid.

Trimax MAG125 Resettable Combination Bent Pin 1/2" Receiver Lock Review

I didn't want something that I could lose a key too but wanted to protect my investment in some hitch covers, since one I had was stolen. The combination is something my family knows so if I croak they can still get it off for future trailer hook-ups. Morbid thought but it's better than using a hacksaw. The slip-on rubber cover is also a nice bonus feature.

Rapid Hitch 5 1/2" Drop Ball Mount 2" x 2-5/16" Ball Review

I was reluctant to spend the money on this hitch package.

However, once I received it, and, starting putting it to use, my opinion of the design increased almost daily.

I have a lot of machinery that I need to tow around the place - log splitter - work trailer - ATV - wood chipper, etc. All of them have a standard 2" coupler. Occasionally, I need to tow a piece of equipment that has a different sized ball.

This hitch will handle all of them.

The installation took a little because the shank is a tiny bit oversized and I had to fit it into the receiver on my Rover (I uploaded a picture of it towing a trailer). Since it is aluminum, it was easy to fit it to your individual receiver. A little Scotch Brite did it for me.

Once the shank is intalled, it only takes about a minute to switch balls if you need a 1 7/8" ball or a 2 5/8" ball. It takes less than a minute to adjust the height of the hitch.

This package is essential. You DEFINITELY want the locking pins as these hitches are in demand among thieves, and, the removal of the hitch is as easy as it is to install.

If you have more than one piece to tow, and, you need to make fine height adjustments (for safety reasons especially) this is THE hitch for you.

Converter 1-1/4 to 2 In Hitch Receiver Adapter Bicycle Review

As noted in the other review, this is only a Class 2 hitch (1-1/4") to a Class 3 hitch (2").It is useful for mounting bike racks and cargo carriers that are all too common in 2" receiver hitch styles.This is not meant for towing.

Even so, expect to safely load about 150-175 pounds of cargo using this adapter, even though it says it will accomodate 500 pounds (the standard rating of a Class III hitch).You are still bound by the weight limit of your Class II hitch and this adapter cuts that by half.

It is a cheap way to use the larger accessories, which I have to use one due to my Ford Explorer having the smaller size.

I bought this for my 2005 Volvo S40 All wheel drive turbo.The item was selected specifically for a bicylce rack.Instalation was easy.I also purchased an allen bike rack but beware of the S40 rear tail.The rack will hit the tail which extends out past the bumper.I needed to extend the rack and weld it in place to get the combo to work.The quality of this unit is excellent.I looked at other cheaper hitches but the weld quality and construction of this unit makes it worth the extra money.If you are towing a expensive motorcycle or water craft the extra expense will be worth it.It also comes with the receiver hitch and pin which is a bonus.

It came in a few days but i was shocked when i saw that it came with no packaging at all. It was just the hitch with the bag of bolts and washers taped onto it. Lucky it didn't get bent during delivery. The install took a few hours because i couldnt figure out how to take off the hangers for the mufflers. After that it took some time to fishwire the bolts and spacers through the holes. After bout 3 hours the hitch and muffler was installed. Im happy with the look it gave my car.

Most of what is available are the various Masterlock units for around $23 - $25 for a keyed alike set.I was using one of these on my receiver and found it difficult to lock and didn't like the tiny little tab that held it together.Well this Valley set is great.Because the key entry is on the end it's easir to lock/unlock as you can push the lock together with the key instead of having to hold the lock together with one hand and turn the key with the other as with the angled type.As to the price.I have some trouble believing this, or any, set is worth the $65 retail value claim altho it is very well made and I'm very confident it will hold up well. The fact that I paid $12.50 makes it a sweet deal.Even at the current $28-$29 price, it is a better set than the ones at Kmart and most auto parts stores.I combined it with another item and got free shipping as well.I arrived in two days via UPS.

Valley 74510 Adjustable Tow Bar Review

I bought this tow bar to haul a 1995 Jeep Wrangler behind our motor home.

The price/quality equation is about right. The bar performs well and does what it's supposed to do, but it lacks the features of high-end bars made by other manufacturers (e.g. storage on the motor home, only having to get the tow vehicle 'close' to the bar to complete hookup, etc.). Additionally, the kit doesn't include safety chains (although the bar has mounts for them). A trip to the local Wal-Mart solves that issue.

Given this towing solution costs hundreds of dollars less than a higher-end one, I'll put up with the minor inconveniences encountered while hooking up/unhooking. Overall an economical way to tow flat-bumpered cars.

Curt Manufacturing J-41P Tow Hook W/Hardware 10000 Lb Black Packaged Review

Item is first quality and will bolt directly to the frame of my Silverado. However, the tip of the hook is so close to the frame end/edge that it seems to be impossible to attach anything to it. I would recommend a longer shaft or shank so it will allow more room for the hook to protrude outward enough to attach a chain, rope, cable, or whatever is being used to tow something.

Valley Tow 82111 Class III Receiver Hitch Review

This is a good (and cheap) alternative to OEM hitch. It "kind of functions" as advertised. The powder coating on the hitch is BAD so it might not be suitable for folks in rust belt.
I bought it from Amazon but it was NOT PACKED at all. It had lot of scratches. When the UPS guy walked on the driveway with bare hitch in his hand I was like "what happened to packing" and he said this is it...he too was surprised. The UPS label was put directly on the hitch.

When the UPS label was taken out the powder coat paint came out with the label glue-exposing bare metal. If I was not in CA I would have returned the hitch for the fear of it being rusted.

Took me about an hour to install in 2008 Acura MDX.

All in all after a week and two uses I wish I had gone with OEM hitch. The money saved was not worth it. Hope the black paint will stay.

Curt Manufacturing 11112 Class I Receiver Review

Putting the hitch on was pretty straightforward.The fish wires worked great and all the installation tips were good, however when it came time to tighten everything down it all fell apart.

Not all of the fasteners could be tightened because the bolts were too long to use typical sockets and the channel design on both sides prevent the use of deep sockets.The channel design in itself requires a u-joint attachment be used.

Overall I'm happy with the product, but I would have chosen something with a slightly different design if I knew how difficult it would be to tighten down all the fasteners.

Valley 76450 Triple Ball Mount Review

Welded, and very heavy solid steel with 3 ball sizes.It never made sense to me that the trailer is locked to the ball, and ball mount locked to the receiver, but all anyone needs to do is unscrew the ball nut and off they go with the trailer attached to the ball, on their mount.Welded hitch-balls make sense for security of a trailer, or a locking ball, which I have not been able to find.This solved the problem to reduce risk of loss of my kayak trailer. Curt Manufacturing 11338 Class I Receiver Review

This is the second Class I receiver I have mounted on one of my vehicles. This one was the easiest of the two. You do have to fish a bolt and washer through a frame member to get the bolt to protrude through a hole, but it wasn't as hard as it seemed it would be.
The only real trick is tightening the two horizontal bolts. You need a really long ratchet extension to reach these nuts.

Curt Manufacturing 13156 Class III Receiver Review

First: service / shipping--excellent, arrived quickly and in good shape

Second: the hitch--did try to put it on myself which proved difficult as I had to get the cover plates off our QX4; actually couldn't do it because I don't have a powered wrench--nothing to do with hitch, but since we had to have our mechanic put it on ($50), I can't speak to the difficulty of self-installation. Once on, solid as a rock and doesn't protrude appreciably, so I would say it looks great--not quite as if it came from the factory, but close. We are using it for a bike rack, so I can't speak to how it "feels" with a trailer, etc. Overall, very pleased

Trimax T665LC Hardened Metal Disc Lock - Chrome 10mm Pin (Long Throat) with Pouch & Reminder Cable Review

This is a fine product for a motorcycle or scooter (have both).The locking/unlocking mechanism works well (no fiddling needed).The key light is useful when trying to unlock the lock at night, although it is a red LED which isn't as good as the white LED that I have with another similar lock from OnGuard.I find that I fiddle more with the OnGaurd lock when unlocking that one compared to the this Trimax.

Master Lock 1480KA Stainless Steel Sleeved Barbell Lock Review

For the price I didn't expect ti to be this sturdy.The cover works better than any of my other ones, and the key looks nice on my key ring.I don't know how it couldn't fit, works great in all of my receivers. Curt Manufacturing 51110 Venturer Brake Control Review

The wiring was very simple (if you're familiar with vehicle wiring) and it was a pretty good price.However, timed control of trailer brakes is an absolutely terrible idea.I made one trip with my camper and I'm taking this thing back.No matter how hard/light you press your brake pedal, this thing will ramp up brake output to the max in the same allotted time.You can adjust the max output power and how fast it ramps up, but this is not acceptable.You need a brake controller to stop you and your trailer on a dime at the most necessary time.With this controller setup to do that properly, it will stop you on a dime.... every time.You can't feather your brake pedal or anything.I don't know what application this controller was intended for, but operating trailer brakes is not its specialty.

SARIS BONES THELMA 2 BIKE HITCH RACK Review

This is, without a doubt, the easiest bike rack to load/unload bikes.It is also more reasonably priced than the other brands. The only complaint I have is that it doesn't perfectly fit longer wheel-base bikes. We have Electra Townies, and they have a longer than normal wheel base because of the forward pedaling technology (which is awesome, by the way.) The bike shop guy put the rack's rear wheel 'wells' on backwards to accommodate the longer wheel base. That worked fine in my opinion, even though the rear wheels did not sit flat in the wells. We drove our bikes from MI to FL with no problems whatsoever. However, my husband was never comfortable with the wheels not fitting completely in the wells, so we got the Thule DoubleTrack last summer. It is more cumbersome to mount the bikes on the Thule rack, but they fit more secure in DH opinion. And the Thule has additional security features (for an additional cost, of course), so in that regard it's better. But all in all, I really miss the ease the Saris :( but I can 'visit' it down the street at my sister-in-law's house! If you have normal wheel-base bikes, this Saris is by far the easiest bike rack to use.

Curt Manufacturing 14080 Class IV Receiver Review

The receiver seems to be high quality in its construction.There were some weld splatters in a couple areas that got powder coated over, but that's not a big deal to me.What I wasn't impressed with was the fact that the factory Class III hitch I removed from the vehicle was attached with grade 10.9 hardware.The hardware that came with the hitch was all class 8.8.I'm sure it's probably fine, but I have a hard time putting a stronger receiver on my vehicle using weaker hardware.I e-mailed Curt Manufacturing and they gave me a line about how their testing showed that 10.9 hardware was brittle and they found the grade 8.8 hardware to be sufficient.It may be sufficient, but line the about 10.9 being brittle is simply not true.I ended up reusing some of the hardware and purchasing SAE grade 8 bolts for 4 of the mounting locations.It may be overkill, but I feel better about it.
