I purchased this double ball mount under the impression that the 2" shaft bar was a solid piece.I have other double/tri ball mounts, and all of them are solid 2" square bar. This Valley Mount has a hollow (tube steel) bar, which I assume is adequate for its rated loads. I have kept the mount, and used it to tow relatively light loads (maximum load towed withthis Valley mount is a 4700 lb trailer with tongue weight of less than 500 lbs), and of course the mount has been adequate for its stated relatively light duty loads.I would not have purchased this mount had Amazon and/or the manufacturer stated the shaft was hollow...but I could not find that information anywhere despite googling for over an hour.
Appreciating the rating on this Valley double ball mount is identical with double ball mounts with solid shafts, one has to assume the solid shaft on other similar products is somewhat overkill...but I happen to like that overkill as a confidence builder. The upside to the hollow bar is less weight which is appreciated if you're changing mounts often.
